I recently finished two pieces that I'd like to share with everybody. The first one is a reminder of the simplicity of play. It seems we tend to complicate our lives with so many wasteful things, not to mention responsibilities that are imporant. The more complicated it's gotten the less we remember to be free, young, creative, and playful. This piece also symbolizes the fact that we could return there easily; That all those responsibilities can still be fun. That playfulness is as simple as a tire, rope, and tree. The second piece is from a new series I'm doing on music. I can still remember driving around town with my friends in the infamous piece of crap pinto. And the hard work and dedication of making those mix tapes with the double tape deck..(the timing of hitting the red record button was so imporant). I wish I still owned some of those tapes. There are two more pieces in this series to follow soon. Be on the lookout for them: Boombox and Record Player. "Things Will Swing Back""Mix Tape"

These are my latest pieces I've been working on. The bicycles just happened. I thought about the whole "summer fling' idea with "the chase." The other as always has to do with the beach. Can you tell I'm ready to see the ocean? Only 5 days and we'll be there in Southern Maine. The last piece "Sunset Red," I did as a gift to a client of mine. She loves horses and this is one of her many named Red. The wood is from her house (all reclaimed wood from the northeast). The horse is made of recycle design magzines. On his chest, upside down reads Be Inspired. His face is made up with words as well and his mane is a pattern. The ChaseThe Proper Use of a KickstandSunset RedWell, I've finished two mixed media pieces the last two weeks.
Lobster Blissque- This project I did for my daughter Asher. She has a stuffed animal we got in Maine named Libby the Lobster. We lost her on the way back on our flight, but were able to track down another from a store up there. She just loves Libby and now her little sister Pincher. I wanted to do this piece to remember those fun, light, silly, childlike beings that are deep inside each one of us. Two Lovers Entwined Pass Me By- This title actually comes from a lyric from The Smiths: "Two lovers entwined pass me by and heaven knows I'm miserable now." I know it's somber, but I do envy those young couples who have the whole world in front of them. They are passionate, simple, and the clasping of their hands is so pure and innocent; fresh; alive; tingly! Oh how I remember those days... I've just finished five reclaimed wood backgrounds. Next step, they're gonna get mix media'd. Here's a sneak peak of them:
I miss the freaking beach. Here is my latest piece. I thought by continuing to create these beach scenes I would escape there and be fulfilled. However, I think it's driving me even more crazy. Sometimes while I'm in the studio I can smell the salty sea air, sun tan lotion, pina colada, and the many other atmospheric ingredients that make up the best potpourri ever. Then I'm back here in the middle of one of the largest states, Texas! Usually, I travel twice a year to the beach. Springtime in Florida. Summer time in Maine or some other beach excursion. But this year we are too busy to go anywhere and I am feeling like a rowdy teenager itching for spring break. I've even considered how I could just move to a beach, but it's very improbable. Anyhow, all that to say, enjoy my most recent mixed media piece. Anyone who goes to the beach enough knows this "perfect day" I am trying to recreate. It's the drive, the music, the smells, the anticipation just before you actually arrive. Here is a studio shot after I made the background. This is new wood that I antiqued and stained: Final ProductBacksideWell, with spring approaching I've been busy working on a new spring series. I've been invited to show my pieces for a Big Brothers & Big Sisters Auction in Portland, Maine. And I've been asked to show my work at a gallery in Surf City, NJ. Therefore, I've been working, working, working! Every time I finish one of these I want to be close my eyes and time travel back to the beach. I can't wait for our summer vacation to Ogunquit, Maine. Anyhow, I hope they take you out of this cold weather and back to sunny warm days. Happy viewing! Summer DaysSun. Fun. Young.I finally finished my first mixed media on reclaimed wood. Very excited to share. I'm calling it 'lively lives.' The neat thing about every buoy is that it represents a fisherman's family.
This is a lobster shack found in York, Maine. I photographed it a couple of years ago. I'm so thrilled to have obtained some reclaimed wood from Maine. First of all, it's my favorite place to vacation. Second, my mixed media collages are inspired by the colorful and aged wood of this area. I mean how cool is it to actually be using vintage reclaimed wood that could have been on an old farm house, fishing shack, or barn for years. The history behind that is amazing. Therefore, I thought I'd share my most recent mixed media piece with the world. Here are some process photos. Enjoy! This is after I've cut it and pieced it together. Below is the back assembly. Now, I've pieced together my lobster shack and am beginning to place in the buoys.
